Exercising but not losing weight? Do not despair.

For all of those who have hit a plateau in their weight loss, do not despair.  Professionals in Australian health promotion have found that overweight individuals that exercise regularly have greatly improved health prospects weather they are losing weight or not. 

An article in the Age showed that the health prospects of overweight individuals who exercise regularly are far greater than thin individuals who do not exercise.

Professor Adrian Bauman, director of the Australian Centre for Health Promotion wants Australians to stop focusing entirely on weight loss, and start looking at their weight loss efforts as improving health weather or not they lose weight. 

The process of trying to lose weight through exercise and health eating can be just as important, if not more, than the actual weight loss itself, so do not be disheartened!

The health benefits of regular exercise in overweight people when compared to ‘slim couch potatoes’ included lowered risk of heart disease, diabetes, as well as lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

So, if you are trying to lose weight to improve your health put have hit a plateau, keep up the good work!  Even if your weight loss slows, all the effort you are putting in is not in vain, and could add years to your life, as well as decreasing the chances of you developing diabetes and heart disease.

The old saying that its not the destination, but the journey that is important definitely holds true with your weight loss experience.
