The Tony Ferguson
Weight Loss Program is a reduced energy, low fat, low Glycaemic index (GI) meal
substitution program.
The program is
based on meal replacements, with nutritional education, regular weigh-ins and
personal support provided via phone call, online forums, or visit to a Tony
Ferguson Centre.
The Tony Ferguson Weight Loss program works
by replacing two meals a day with a meal
replacement sachet, which can be
either a soup or a shake. The third meal
of the day needs to be low in carbohydrates and contain a serve of protein. Low carb vegetables and diet jelly can be
consumed freely throughout the day, as well as two serves of low carbohydrate
fruits, such as pears and apples.
Because the diet
is so low in fibre, a daily fibre supplement is needed to prevent constipation.
A multivitamin supplement should also be taken to ensure vitamin and mineral
requirements are being met.
How much does the Tony Ferguson Weight Loss program cost?
The program costs around $100
a week. This includes membership, meal sachets and all recommended supplements.
The program works
by keeping the body in a state of Ketosis,
or fat burning. The low GI and
carbohydrate content of the diet helps to keep the body in this state.
While many people
find short term success from this program, maintaining weight loss momentum in
the long term can be very difficult. Meal replacement programs are hard to fit
into everyday life – such as social outings and special occasions. Fitting them
into family life is also tricky, especially if the cook in the house is on a
meal replacement diet, but still has to cook meals for the rest of the family!
It can be difficult
to stick to only having one solid meal per day. You may also find it difficult
to avoid carbohydrate based meals in the long term. If the program is not continued with, the weight
that has been lost may quickly be regained as the body switches back to storing
fat instead of burning it.
While weight loss
results may take longer to see, the best form of ‘diet’ is a healthy balanced
one that should not in fact be a diet at all, but more a permanent part of a
life long healthy lifestyle.
